Gallery Exhibition Unit 2 Outcomes, RCA (2022)
I have been enclosing books I loved, books with secrets. I was cocooning the object but denying the purpose, rendering them shut. Am I was silencing the wrong voices? Now I challenge myself to soften the blow of books I do not love and to juxtaposition them with those I do. I was led here by the contemplation of the writings of Maggie Nelson and Olivia Laing on Freedom. What does freedom mean – are we in a world of post-freedom, just as the idea of post-truth is promoted today – a time where neither freedom nor truth can be achieved. Has Nina Simone’s 22nd Century arrived?
It is my aim to experience the gallery as part of the debate, to interact with my audience, as I see the work as a conversation. To answer the question of whether this adds or subtracts from the work.
